Sophie has been singing since the age of 13 when she decided to take up singing lessons. She soon discovered through her teacher that she could actually sing and as it was about the only lesson in school that was fun and from that moment on she decided to take the perilous path of a singer! At 16 she went to oxford to do her Alevels and with her first guitar which had only 2 strings she wrote her first song and she joined her first band. Her fate was sealed as she decided that this was the career she wanted to follow. After studying for 2 years at UCL and while also singing in her 2nd band her passion for music became more apparent so she decided to take a year out to pursue her singing career. She never went back to university and instead joined another band and got her first deal with sony.
Due to artistic differences Her first album was never released but it encouraged her to go solo and in the late 1990's sophie began to write more songs and ended up working with Grooverider writing and performing on his debut album and then went on to work with Groove Armada on their album 'Vertigo'.
In 2000 she was introduced to Sam and Henry (zero 7). she began to write with them on their debut album (Simple Things).
Over time sophie co-wrote 'Destiny, In The Waiting Line and Spinning' and began touring with them.
'Simple Things' has sold over 1,000,000 copies worldwide.
She has also worked with them on their 2nd album 'When it Falls' and co-wrote 'Passing by' and 'In Time' and has been touring with them since the release in March 2004. This album has already gone platinum.
Sophie released her debut album in 2005 'Earthbound' which was a collection of songs that have been recorded over the past few years some acoustically and some which have been written and produced with Robin Guthrie ( Cocteau Twins). She decided that it was time to release some of her work and was given the opportunity to do so independently.
In 2005 Sophie recorded 'Lullaby' with her friend/producer KK which was a night time CD for children drawing on the influences of old Nursery Rhymes and Lullabies. Together they created a perfect soundscape for peaceful sleep which is for all ages.
This will be the first of a series of collectable CD's and DVD's with accompanying hard backed books for children and this will be the start of 'The Rainbow Collection'.
Sophie realised that there was a gap in the market for quality recordings for children and that the range of childrens music was very limited.
For sophie music has been one of the most important forms of education not only enabling her to express herself but also to communicate when words get lost and therefore she felt it absolutely necessary to help others through music and children are our future.
Lullaby was released in November 2004 and a childrens fund will be set up from the sales of the CD's & Books.
This fund will then be allocated to different educational projects and causes around the world.
She feels it is now time to put all our energy into educating and helping children around the world .
In 2006 Sophie has been working with The Egg and co-wrote a song called 'Walking away'. The band had some unexpected success this summer with this tune when it was remixed by tocadisco and then boot legged by David Guetta. It was a mash up and got to no 2 in the uk charts. The Egg and sophie have also been working together on her music and have helped her form a band around her acoustic melodies. She hopes to start recording her first studio album in january 2007 with the help of the boys.
Sophie also became the voice of BA recording and singing on John Denvers 'Leaving on a jet Plane' this has inspired her to record another album for the rainbow collection but in the meantime Sophie and KK are going to Kenya in february 2007 to work with various different school children recording and writing songs for their 2nd Rainbow collections album Earth Africa.
This album will be the first international kids project of the rainbow collections and will be filmed. Hopefully leading to many more countries and cross writing projects with children.
Sophie always appreciates all your comments and encouraging words and hopes that with this new site she will continue to read all your words from around the world.
Thank you x
