Summer 2009
Hello everyone
It's been a long time since I wrote a blog or even put anything new on this site- that's because I have been WIP for over a year now.
I am still working towards my first studio album and in the between time I have set up a foundation called The RCCF, for music work I have done with children.
Lullaby was released summer 2005 and then KK and myself recorded an album(Earth Africa) in Kenya Jan 2007.
These are all part of our Rainbow Collections.
Please check www.therainbowcollections.com to see further what I have been doing over the past year.
The school in kenya is falling down so the RCCF put on their first event at The Tabernacle, Powis Square, London April 23rd 2009 and we raised over 30,000 for the school that we will be building later on this year.
So I have not stopped with my own personal music but just made a small detour, which will be a part of my future music projects. We hope to record Lullaby 2 later on this year.
In 2008 I put a small acoustic band together for some lovely festivals ( haselstock, Bestival) and this summer 2009 I will play a few festivals acoustically(Glastonbury,Camp Bestival, Fawsley).
I have not got a band yet as I am still working on the album but I am hoping by the end of the year there will be some new material for all of you who are kindly still listening.
So please keep listening out, your patience is appreciated. Have an amazing summer 09

I have been in the studio working on my 1st international kids album-Earth africa which KK and I hope to have ready by christmas.
I ahve also been enjoying many of the summer festivals- The secret Garden was fantastic with lots of amazing bands and extraordinary people.
This weekend I go to a small one called Bohemia but I am mainly preparing for The Burning Man in the nevada desert
A village built in the sand with apopulatins of 45,000 people.
At present I am exploring all options for my first studio album- so it will take a little time before I can release but I am slowly gathering great people to work with
I hope you have all had a great summer so far

Hello everyone
I will be supporting Tina Dico on her UK tour in october.
It will be a lot of fun and hope that any of you who are around will make at least one show.
Tina and I are already mates from our work together with Zero 7 so you get the both of us for the price of one!
I am really Looking forward to playing out again. It will be acoustic and I will be accompanied by my good friend Tarka Sands who is a great musician in his own right, so hope you will come and see us all in the autumn, my favourite time of year.
Enjoy the rest of the summer

Hello to you all.
I am sorry it has been a long time since I added some news.
I am currently updating my website so I ask for my friends to be patient with me while I do this.
I will then be able to reply to your questions directly and maybe add some new features.
Many have been asking about The BA advert and I can confirm that I was asked to cover 'Leaving on a jet plane' by John Denver for BA and we are talking about releasing it soon.
I have also started playing out with my new band but we are only doing very few gigs as we develop our sound and as I write towards my second album which won't be ready until 2007. Something to look forward to!
I will be starting my second rainbow colllections album this summer as well.
If you want questions answered directly please email me at sophie@sophiebarker.com or at myspace.com/sophiebarker otherwise you will have to wait but no harm in a little bit of that !
Have a wonderful summer

Sophie Barker – Earthbound
Released 23rd May 2005
The sublime Sophie Barker, one of the UK's finest live acoustic performers and a massively talented songwriter, is finally set to release her debut album.
Sophie is perhaps best known to date for her work with Zero 7, having written and sung on both of their hugely successful albums, 'Simple Things' and 'When It Falls' and has co-writing credits on some of their biggest hits, including 'Destiny', 'In The Waiting Line' and 'Spinning'. She has also toured extensively with Zero 7 during the last three years.
What is less common knowledge is that Sophie also wrote and performed with the likes of Grooverider and then with Groove Armada on their million selling 'Vertigo' album. That the ethereal vocals which made her such a natural partner to the delicate funk of Zero 7 can sit alongside these heavier dance producers, as well as be laid bare on the majority of 'Earthbound', is testament to one of the country's greatest undiscovered vocal talents.
All these collaborations have most certainly laid the groundwork for a major solo career.
After the release of her 'Lullaby' album last year, a night time CD for children drawing on influences of old nursery rhymes and lullabies, she is now set to release her first solo album of original material.
'Earthbound' is an undeniably beautiful collection of eight heartfelt songs, some acoustic and some written and produced with Cocteau Twin Robin Guthrie. Delivered in a refreshingly raw fashion, the album is a testament to the good old-fashioned skills of songwriting and performance. As anyone who has witnessed her in a live context will attest, her talent is entirely natural and when seen in the flesh, truly inspiring. 'Earthbound' gets as near as is possible to capturing that innate magic on record, and as such is a must for any fan of honest musical ability.
